Who should take the PL-900 exam?
PL-900 is for people starting with Microsoft Power Platform: business users, analysts, consultants, and IT staff who want to understand how low-code apps, automated flows, Dataverse, and Copilot Studio agents fit together. There are no prerequisites, and it is not required before any role-based Power Platform certification.
How to prepare
- Read the official study guide and note the skills measured as of July 24, 2026.
- Create a free Power Apps developer environment and build one small canvas app, one cloud flow, and one Copilot Studio agent. Hands-on time makes the scenario questions much easier.
- Spend extra time on Dataverse (tables, relationships, security roles) and on Copilot Studio agents. Together they are close to half the exam.
- Take Microsoft's free practice assessment, then review every wrong answer against Microsoft Learn documentation.
PL-900 FAQ
Is the PL-900 exam hard?
PL-900 is an entry-level fundamentals exam. It tests whether you understand what each Power Platform product does and when to use it, not whether you can build complex solutions. Most candidates who study the skills outline and try the products hands-on pass on the first attempt.
What changed on PL-900 in July 2026?
Microsoft's July 24, 2026 update added a 20–25% domain on Copilot Studio agents, increased the weight of environment management and Power Automate, and removed the standalone Power Pages and canvas/model-driven build objectives. Study material written before that date will not cover the agent domain.
Does the PL-900 certification expire?
No. Microsoft fundamentals certifications do not expire and have no renewal assessment.
